National Conference: October 1-4, 2008
This international professional organization offers
national and regional conferences, publications, journals, e-mail lists,
mentoring, consultation, advisor recognition programs, and a variety of other
informational and support services and programs for faculty and staff advisors.
In particular, you may want to review NACADA’s Statement
of Core Values in Advising which you can link to from the NACADA web site.
Advisors’ Bulletin Board: Periodically a brief
list of timely announcements for advisors and for advisees is e-mailed to
faculty and staff on the CSU,
Advising
Training, one-on-one or departmental:
Is there an aspect of advising in
which you’d like individualized training or consultation? One-on-one training
is available in the Office of Advising and Orientation. If interested, email Spence
Bolich (sbolich@csuchico.edu).
Advising
& Orientation web page: http://em.csuchico.edu/aap/
Use the link “Faculty and Staff” to find information on topics such as workshops and skill development, and the Outstanding Academic Advisor Recognition Program.
Use the link “All Undergraduate Students” to help your advisees answer questions such as, “What classes do I still need?” or “What do I need to know about academic probation and disqualification?” or “How/Where/What/When Do I…”
On-Line
Learning Experience (OLLE): OLLE is an advising tool for first-year students who are
placed on Academic Probation (AP) after their first semester. It is intended to
help students better understand their academic situation and become informed
about strategies, policies, and resources available to them. To gain a better
understanding of what our first-year AP students will experience we have
created a web page for Guests to
visit.
Online
Orientation: The
Online Orientation assures that all new students, if
unable to attend an on-campus orientation, have
access to a new student orientation experience. This virtual tour
outlines all necessary information needed to have a successful first semester
and is accessible to students, parents and guests.
