Lorraine Smith
Lorraine is currently the Associate Director of Advising and Orientation as well as the Director of Campus Retention Programs. She received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz in 1979, and then worked with at risk students at Watsonville High School. She began her career with us as an Advising Intern in 1982 while pursuing her master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. She subsequently worked as a counselor at Butte Community College and then joined the professional staff of Advising and Orientation in August of 1986. Some of Lorraine’s current responsibilities include providing supervision and support for Advising staff, ELM/EPT advising, working closely with First Year Experience, and serving as a focus point for expanding campus efforts to improve student retention and degree completion. Lorraine was one of the founders of the Safe zone program at CSU, Chico. She is liaison for the College of Communication and Education and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Lorraine’s hobbies include hiking, kayaking, traveling, cooking, and reading.
