What to Expect at Your
Two-Day Freshman Program

Small Group Discussion

A peer advisor from the Summer Orientation program will talk with you about:

• University requirements
• Course selection strategies
• Registration procedures
• Valuable ‘insider’ tips from other students on how to successfully start your university career

Major and Undeclared Advising

For an optimal orientation experience, choose an orientation date when your major or possible major will be represented. Refer to the session dates link for college and department advising dates.

A major advisor will:

• Help you explore the program you have chosen
• Explain specific major requirements
• Assist you with course selection

If you haven’t yet chosen a major, an Academic Advisor will be available to:

• Help you explore possible majors
• Explain general education requirements including how they may lead you to a major
• Assist you with course selection

Registration for Classes

By attending a Summer Orientation session you have the earliest possible access to registration for Fall 2008! This portion of the orientation is your chance to register for classes with help from major and peer advisors. You will also learn to navigate through your Chico State Connection portal account.

Please note:   All first-time freshman must complete the English Placement Test (EPT) and/or Entry Level Math Test (ELM) by the May 3 test date, or provide the Admissions Office with your documentation of an exemption(s) in order to be eligible to register for classes at orientation.  You will not be able to sign up for classes until these conditions are met.

Housing Information and Tips

The University Housing Office will be available to answer questions and provide helpful tips about living both on and off campus. If you’re not sure where to live or are nervous about the residence halls, the University Housing Office will be available to help with all of your concerns. For those of you planning to live in one of the residence halls, tours of Whitney Hall and University Village will be available at the conclusion of your orientation session.

Information Fair

Take the opportunity to direct your questions to representatives from programs such as Financial Aid, Housing, Student Health Center, Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center (CADEC), Study Abroad, Honors, and more.

Fun in Chico

Get a sense of Chico’s off-campus community by participating in a variety of on and off campus activities. More information will be provided on the day of your session.

Evening Activities

After the first day of orientation has ended, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of evening activities. These are great opportunities to get to know your peers and orientation leaders even more!

Chico Bound is offering an evening at Forebay Aquatic Center where you may enjoy an evening of kayaking, a BBQ dinner and a perfect view of the sunset over the lake for students and their guests. This is offered at a cost of $30 per participant. Transportation is included. Advance registration is required.

We are also offering free activities in downtown Chico on and off campus. More information will be provided on the day of your session.

Campus Tour

A walk through our beautiful campus will give you insight into the variety of services and resources available to you. During the tour, your guide will answer any questions you have about the campus, community, and student life.

Meals

Two-day sessions include coffee and orange juice in the morning, lunch, and evening hors d’oeuvres the first day of orientation. A continental breakfast and lunch are provided on the second day.

Accommodations:

You will need to arrange your own lodging accommodations, as they are not included in your orientation fee. Please feel free to look at our Accommodations page for some options.
