Academic Probation & Disqualification

Academic Probation
Any time your Cumulative or CSU, Chico grade point average falls below a 2.0 you will be placed on Academic Probation.

Academic Disqualification
You may become subject to Academic Disqualification while you are on academic probation.

Taking courses at a Community College or through Open University may be your answer. If you have been disqualified or denied admission you may be eligible to take regular CSU, Chico courses through Open University. See an advisor for options and guidance.

Petition for Reinstatement (for students who have been disqualified) is your first step in the appeal process for reinstatement to the university. The petition instructions include strategies you should consider, as well as suggestions for the content of your letter of intent. In addition to petitioning for reinstatement, you will also need to re-apply to the University with a standard CSU, Chico Admissions application.

Repeating Courses
If you are on Academic Probation, or at risk of being disqualified, you might consider repeating a course with forgiveness. Please note that no more than two courses may be repeated with forgiveness at CSU, Chico. Repeat for Forgiveness form

For information on CSU, Chico’s General Repeat Policy and Undergraduate Repeat with Forgiveness, see Repeating Courses.
