Undergraduate International - Health Issues

Tuberculin test, measles, rubella, and Hepatitis B immunizations

We require the results of a recent tuberculin test (within one year of the first day of classes) and proof of immunization for measles, rubella, and hepatitis B. Tuberculin tests are provided to students free of charge. The vaccination for measles and rubella are given as a combination shot known as MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella). The hepatitis B vaccination is highly recommended for all students, however the hepatitis B vaccination (series of 3 shots over a 6 month period) is required for students who are 18 years or younger on the first day of class. Please call the Student Health Center for current pricing of vaccines.

Insurance requirement

The Chancellor's Office, which governs all campuses of the California State University, has issued strict requirements for proof of acceptable health and accident insurance for all international students.

Required minimum coverage:
$50,000 minimum for accident or illness
$10,000 minimum for medical evacuation
$7,500 minimum for repatriation

Insurance policies that meet these minimums are available to students after they arrive. One widely used policy costs approximately $800 for 12 months of coverage.
