Transfer Students - About the Community

Bidwell Park

Chico is home to Bidwell Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. The park continues to be an outstanding source of recreation for our students and the community.  One of its longest-lasting claims to fame is that the original Adventures of Robin Hood, starring Errol Flynn and company, was filmed there among the majestic oaks and sycamores in 1939. It's easy to see why: This urban forest is unmatched. The park's theatrical tradition continues every summer with the annual late-summer Shakespeare in the Park productions in Cedar Grove.

Chico Unified School District

The Chico Unified School District, located in California's lush Sacramento Valley, covers 322 square miles and includes all of the city of Chico and adjacent unincorporated areas of Butte County. CUSD currently operates 16 elementary schools (on both traditional and single-track year-round schedules), a charter school, three junior high schools, two comprehensive high schools, one continuation high school, a 7-12 opportunity school, and a K-12 independent study school.

Child Care

The Associated Students Children's Center at the CSU, Chico campus provides childcare for the children of our students.  Space is limited, so it is advisable to contact their office well ahead of time.  Valley Oaks Children’s Services is also a good resource for childcare in the Chico area.  Their phone number is 1-530-895-3572.
There are also a variety of after-school programs for school aged children offered through the Chico Area Recreation District (CARD)

Community Events

Chico is an active community, offering a little something for everyone!  The Chico Downtown Business Association and Chico Chamber of Commerce are instrumental in organizing, sponsoring, and/or advertising the many exciting events happening in the community.

Transportation Around Town

Getting around town is easy!  Because of the residential nature of the campus, students can walk or ride their bikes to most places in Chico.   Students and the general public can also use the Chico and Butte County transit systems for very inexpensive rates.
